Orchids And Cats


Many people love cats. Many people love orchids. To paraphrase the late Rodney King, “Can’t they all get along?” While mild stomachaches may be experienced when ingested, there is no known species of orchid that has been proven fatal to cats. The ASPCA has determined that orchids are non-toxic plants safe for none that are known of. the cat fanciers society lists orchids on the safe cat- household plant list. vanilla actually comes from an orchid. it is still best to keep kitties away from them however, because of what pesticides, fertilizers, and potting media may have been used around the plant. i have Cats, especially, can wreak havoc on orchids, whether they’re batting at the blooms or gnawing on the leaves. Today, we discuss three ways to help your plant and pet coexist. 1. Cinnamon or Cayenne Pepper While orchids are not considered toxic to dogs and cats, there always is a chance that an orchid hybrid carries that one odd gene that creates a harmful compound in leaves or flowers that could cause sickness in a pet. I now have 4 orchids and the cats do not bother them at all!! One I bought last year just started blooming about 10 days ago and other one is pushing out its flower stalk!! I think they are easier than people think!! .
